Our faculty members Ercüment Çiçek and Can Alkan, and our graduate students Mehmet Alper Yılmaz, Ricardo Roman-Brenes and Klea Zambaku have attended UCLA Computational Genomics Summer Institute 2024 which is organized by the University of California in Los Angeles, USA. This collaborative endeavor aims to leverage community expertise in computational sciences towards advancing genomics, medical imaging, and electronic health records analysis. Bilkent team have attended a wide spectrum of talks that cover computational methods designed to solve problems in functional genomics, phylogenetics, population/statistical genetics and high throughput sequencing technologies. Ercüment Çiçek gave a tutorial on privacy challenges in genomic data sharing and Can Alkan gave a tutorial on accelerating read mapping through hardware/algorithm co-design and processing-in-memory technologies. Klea Zambaku presented her work on using bloom filters to detect copy number variations on long read sequencing data.
